My trunk went off in the morning. … several people went on the Norfolk bus at 4 o’clock. … I read ‘The Ragged-trousered Philanthropists’ all the afternoon. … zbn zmh

Breaking news. 5-7 Italian ships (2 or 3 cruisers) sunk, with no casualties at all except for two planes! Biggest battle in the Mediterranean. znb zwf

Tuesday 1st

Up at 4.50 …  I didn’t travel with Wood, as I still feel awkward and did not know whether he wanted to or not … We saw surprisingly little damage along the coast. … zfr zar

Glatting is much the same, except for a great gash in the wood  above Glatting lake which has been cut for an electric cable [a line of pylons]. … zds

Wednesday 2nd

My first day home. After breakfast I fed the rabbits (Flopsy has four lovely little uns, two black and two like pa, black and white) and the goats. zfl zpt zdc
