Wednesday 19th

…Winter gave me a notebook with extracts from a book called ‘The imitation of Christ’ by Thomas Kempis with his comments as they applied to me in particular. I did not have time to read it thoroughly today—there are pages and pages. Very interesting to have someone trying to ‘convert’ me—it enlarges my ideas etc. zrl zsd zby

Thursday 20th

In double MT Cruickshank and I both started to make 1/72 scale models of a Heinkel 70 a. By the evening I had finished both wings and the fuselage—RJC had practically finished but slightly split one wing … zcf zmd zfr

 

Thursday 27th

I got on a lot with the Heinkel 70 a, and left it for someone else to finish. . … In JTC we were to have had a Tactical exercise, but having been forced to shelter twice by showers we went and had the usual jaw from the Major. Before french B gave me the plans of a Beaufort, which I had asked him for; he had done them very nicely—rather a good chap. zcf zmd zct zmd

We went to Howson’s play in the evening, called ‘Rope’. A horrific murder story, frightfully good, and very well acted … zth

 

Friday 28th

… Read a lot—’Gone with the Wind’. A very good book… zbn

After discussion with Cruickshank I’ve at last realised what, and how foul, the school definition of ‘tarting’ is. Another appalling thing is how widespread it is, even among people whom you would expect to have more self control. zfr zse zmb
