Sunday 1st

Two pieces of buttered toast for breakfast. Feel quite better but very bored. Nothing to read, so count number of separate days on which Martin Wood’s name occurs [in my diary] since he came. 88! + 3 before he came. He’s been here 289 days. … zil zfd zfr

Tuesday 3rd

Woke up about 8.10. Breakfast came, in widely separated and wrongly ordered instalments, then I finished reading the Yearling—a lovely  book. At 11.30 Mr. Candler came and saw me, and then I got up. I was told that I would go tomorrow soon after breakfast! Friday 6th

Gale and rain. … Heard this from one Irish Station on radio: ‘Calling No. 1 Tory Isle. I call your attention to S.S. [blank] on the lee shore of Tory Isle.’ Then he asked all stations in Donegal to keep ready to receive distress messages. zrd
