Wednesday 11th

… After tea I took up the height measuring machine to the Pentire.

Weighed and measured: 7 stones 7 lb (down!) and 5ft 6¾ (Up!). zpa

 

Thursday 12th

… I read in my room. Chris [Martin Wood’s brother] came in and asked me a question which I was to answer lately—Martin was going to ask me for part of next holidays, and would I rather he was there or not? (because of what people say about Juniors and Seniors being friends etc.) zfr zop

I am frightfully glad that they are going to ask me. I like Martin an awful lot. …  zfr

We went to the Beggar’s Opera at 6.55. It began at 7.34 and was very good indeed. H was frightfully good. Martin as woman, I can’t think why his dress stayed on. Jolly good tunes etc.—well done. Collection for minesweepers—I gave 6d. zmu zth zfr

 

Saturday 14th

In Chemistry the teacher (Mr. Hughes) told us about his experiences in Germany in the Munich riots. ztc zpn

Sunday 15th

… I packed my trunk in the morning, then T, R and I went along the Headland with a rubber glove puppet, Archibald, the Bishop of Truro, who having been stuffed with paper and soaked in oil was lit in a cave; he burnt beautifully. zrl zmb

… Chris Wood came and I told him I would rather he was there. We talked about his [and Martin’s elder] brother and John (in the Mediterranean). His brother is anti-submarine officer on a destroyer which has sunk 7 submarines this war. … zfr zfl zsl znb zdg

At 7.30 ‘the Housemaster’, frightfully good and very funny. Very well acted. Everyone loved it. Kenwyn came but no other house [this was part of the end-of-term celebrations]. zth
