Tuesday 27th

A six hour air raid in the night. Nearly all the neighbours were in the shelters—we went to sleep. In the morning I went and bought some ironmongery in the Borough High Street, the man was very shocked to hear that we’d been asleep, and then I had great difficulty in finding my way back. I also went off to London Bridge to get some sausages, but took the wrong turning at the end of Pilgrimage Street, and found a butcher after I had gone about 15 yards. zar zsh zfd zfl zdc

We went out in the evening for supper, as the man who was laying the linoleum fused the power, and we had supper in Soho. A jolly good supper at a Restaurant where Mommy and Daddy had been before they were married. The managers were Italians, the present one being the old one’s son. As soon as we got back the siren went. zfd zfl

Wednesday 28th

… there were two air raid warnings during the night, we slept all the time and I only heard the first warning. zar

After lunch Daddy and I … walked to where you get the boats in Regents Park. … At 3.30 we got a sailing punt and went out. There was not very much wind, but it was quite fun, and Daddy and I took it in turns. …We had tea in the park. zfl zwk zbo

Air Raid warning at 9 o’clock—to bed. … zar

Friday 30th

No air raids at all, so we all felt much better. I went sailing again. Just after I got there the siren went, but even so I had to wait hours. Actually I got the smallest boat after waiting ¾ of an hour. Quite good, but not quite enough wind.  zar zbo

Just as I came in the siren went again. All the [barrage] balloons which were down shot up at a terrific rate. There was quite a good AA barrage to the North. Went back by bus. When the All Clear went our nearest siren did the warning by a mistake … Air Raid warning 9.15. zar zad zmh
