Saturday 24th
After breakfast Daddy and I went to the flat, as far as we could by bus, and found Mommy and the removers already there; Mommy blowing up the Harrods’ linoleum layers for not doing their job properly, although they had had a week. The flat is awfully nice, very sunny, and very small. Rather a business getting the furniture in, they had to get the iron desk in through the window. They left before lunch, Mommy tipped them £5 for the team. … zfl zdc zmh
Sunday 25th
Breakfast at nine. News. Ramsgate heavily bombed. 47 down for 10. zar
We went to the flat and worked until lunch, after which we rested until tea. We then did an hours work, and then went round to the Mallalier by bus. We arrived exactly on time, had supper and then went to the ‘flicks: ‘Fire over England’ [with Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, about the Spanish Armada]. Very good. Afterwards we walked a long way up to the Marylebone Road from Oxford Street, and found a tube. We saw the light of two flares. While we were in the tube, although we didn’t know it, the All Clear went. … zwk zar zfl
Monday 26th
… After the news Daddy and Mommy came up. I was still awake, and while we were looking out of the window the siren went. We went downstairs and then decided to go to bed. zfl zar
After I had been asleep I woke up and heard AA fire and possibly bombs. Also I heard planes but I went to sleep again. zar
