Tuesday 20th

… We began removing [receiving furniture] in the afternoon. A lorry plus van came, there are six more to come! zmh zdc zfl

 

Wednesday 21st

Two more loads in the drawing room. I helped a bit …  zdc zfl

I went for a short walk in the afternoon with Tinker, I sat above the chalk pit. On the way back saw a Heinkel through a gap in the clouds. zwk zpt zpp

In the evening a man came from Bignor who said a ‘plane had been shot down by three Spitfires at about that time’ (I had seen the Spitfires about ½ minute later). … zam

Thursday 22nd

… I went for a walk in the morning with Tinker, up past [Col.] Shiner’s [Cold Harbour farm], along the top and down by the green slope. On the top a soldier asked me if I knew where the bomb which was dropped about a month ago fell. I said I didn’t, but it wasn’t in sight of the path. … zwk zpt zso
