Friday 7th
I had been aware of a noise which threatened to wake me up for some time when Margaret came in and told me to get up as it was the air raid siren. We all went down to the passage outside the dining room and sat on the very concrete floor. We heard a few aeroplanes but nothing else and after about an hour we went upstairs and lay on mattresses in that passage. All clear 30 minutes later. zar zfl

Saturday 8th
… Mommy arrived at 8.30 having travelled all night. We had had two air raid warnings in the night, one for about ½ an hour at 11 o’clock, and one at about 2.30 for two hours, in the later part of which we slept. We heard altogether 1 rifle shot. ztv zfl zar
Mommy however had had only one warning in the train, and had later passed through Peterborough and seen one roof damaged by a small bomb. One row of incendiary bombs fell in a row down the middle of the street. zfl zar ztv

… In the morning Dr. Laycock came, froze my heal, and cut off the dead skin. It oozed a lot and felt much better.
