Tuesday 4th

Woke up at about 5.40. … Station 6.40. … Very slow and boring journey. … Daddy home for lunch and Dr. Bassadone [and another Spanish refugee doctor]. John came down all in uniform looking very smart for two days leave. All the family had dinner at the Arts [theatre] and saw ‘Little Review’. Went to bed about 11.30 exhausted. ztv zfl zhy zsl zth

 

Wednesday 5th 

Bathed in the morning [in the Cam]. … Met boys from Kings College Choir School [my old school] there and was told there was an old boys match in the afternoon. I was asked to play. I did. … zsp zfr

Big new German offensive launched on Seine. 120 mile front. zlb

 

Thursday 6th 

… I got out of bed and found that I had a very tender patch on my left heel. Apparently there was a very small thorn in it which had all gone septic. zil

I gave my best pictures of the grebe and a heron to daddy to be enlarged. I am going to send the grebe one to the ‘Field’. zph
