period. I have liked all the people immensely. I have enjoyed the many arguments and also the frivolities. I have learnt a lot in the Commission, a lot from some of the lectures, a lot from being secretary, and a lot from experiencing a week of live contemporary company. And I have returned re-armed and re-determined. I think I have got an important task ahead, and I believe that the conference has helped to emphasise this and to prepare me for it. The train journey was long and largely standing, also hot. I walked from Petworth with my rucksack—hot but pleasant. ztv

Mrs. Wolfe to tea—after she’d left there was a family disagreement upon her world utility, with Mommy defending—my how it’s left me depressed. When I’m depressed I think of all the other things that depress me, and 2 years at school is quite sufficient—if I ever want to stop feeling happy, I just think of that. It will be so entirely isolated for me. I will concentrate on getting politically—and to some extent culturally—educated in my spare time, but it will be bloody. Conferences will help.
