Tuesday 29^th

… In Corps we nearly all had rifles, first we went down by the road to the Bay, then we Ordered, sloped and presented arms in the Gym. I had to stand to attention most of the time, while one of the five without rifles had mine. We marched back up the path. zct zwp

In the evening I had another long talk with Mr. Parsons, 8.35-9.40, about religion etc. I showed him Daddie’s ‘On Death and Dying’ [a magazine article]. He gave me a book about it to read also. ztc zrl zfl zby zmw

Thursday 31^st

… I am now 7 [stone] 8½ [pounds], up 1½ pounds since the beginning of term. … zpa

I got a typewritten letter from Mommy, she says she had decided to become a Communist as then she won’t have to remember names, only Comrade. All the same she won’t have anything to do with other Communists. zpn zfl

Saturday 2^nd

… At 8 o’clock I met Mart. and we went up to the [school] Debate. We were sitting in the front but one row, but got shoved out and separated. The motion was that ‘In the opinion of this house Woman’s finest contribution to the World is in the Home’. Mrs. Spencer and F [a prefect] made very good speeches. The motion was carried by 104 votes to 77. I voted for. zfr zdb zpn
