Wednesday 10th

… After rest I fished for Blenny and got a 5inch one which I managed to put back. Up with bent pin and cotton! … zwl

News—naval engagement in Mediterranean. We sighted two battleships and several cruisers, fired two shots, hit a battleship, and they lay a smoke-screen and ran for it. We gave chase and are giving chase. … znb

 

Thursday 11th

… In double MT … I made a Blenny fishing apparatus. In Biology we had Mr. Ramage, who talked all the period before break on the sea shore in general, very interesting. Then after break we went down on the rocks (of which there were few, as it was high tide) and looked at seaweeds … zcf zwl ztc zsa

 

Saturday 13th

… In the afternoon we were going to go along to the Point, but before we went Frank said “You three have been reported to me by my intelligence service for climbing on rocks! I absolutely forbid it”. Sneaks someone. After that we couldn’t very well go down to the seagull’s nest, so we didn’t go very far. We Blenny fished a little but I’m getting bored of doing that. … zwk zwl zsd

Then BANG! Mr. Spencer told us that he was sending this circular to all masters concerned “I think that this house is treating this term too like a summer holiday, therefore I propose to institute detention periods on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. Offences are cheek, slackness and bad manners, late for meals and talking after lights out.” Phew! zsd

 

Monday 15th

… During 4th period (maths) we heard a big bang, saw a Heinkel or something having just made a low-flying attack on the [St. Eval] ‘drome, and saw anti-aircraft fire. He escaped into cumulus clouds. … zar zad
