Tuesday 18th

P and F came, and we took my canoe down on the trolley and went canoeing. We had a battle and all got soaked (the others v. me). I then sunk F by the edge, he went right in. When I got to the Mill Pond, P was there having come by the stream, and we had another battle. I beached, waded out and sank his canoe in about 1 ft of water. F lost his shirt. Good fun. zbo zfg

Wednesday 19th

When I was woken up at 11.30 it was to hear a warbling note of varying pitch [the air raid warning siren]. We went to Mommy’s room first but then we went back to sleep. When I next  was woken again at about 12.15, I heard a big BANG and was told to go down to the pantry, which was the safest room. We heard anti-aircraft fire and then went to sleep. ‘All Clear’ at about 12.50. In the papers it said about 12 killed, and we knew that they were all here at Cambridge. zar zwc zad
