Thursday 26th

Roger left today, and I went up too to get the records which cannot be sent by post … went to the HMV show rooms, where we played through and got Beethovens 7th, 8th and Violin concerto. … We had tea then parted. Roger to Norwich and home. His was a highly successful visit, enjoyed by guest and hosts. zfr zmu zem

 

Friday 27th

… Mommy heard that her Father has died—not too sad as he has not really lived for some years. zfl zil

 

Sunday 29th

Went for a walk with Margaret after rabbits etc.—we collected marjoram for the WI show for Mommy to dry. Examined the combine harvester—a nice machine… zfl zwk zmo

The Danes are being very tough—there is martial law, and street fighting and sabotage is going on to a very great extent—so [German] troops can’t easily get to Norway, now the Swedes have stopped them through their country. Poor, brave Danes. zwg zlb

… After lunch I biked in to Petworth station to see about sending off carpets to Oxford. A rather grim evening with two overtired parents. … zcy zdc zil zem
