[On the way to the inter-schools conference at Hatfield] … by train to Potters Bar with a very nice schoolteacher who knows the Bignor area—leader of the education commission. zic
Usual female preponderance. … Before tea and during tea, got talking to a very nice (I think) girl from Queenswood who showed us round—medical and nearly communist, very small, pretty. … zic zop zpn

… a lecture on education by a local secondary-school teacher, headmistress—Dent of the Times educational supplement could not come—she was adequate. … zic zey zlu
Then commission meeting—we’ve a good leader. I’m one of the two secretaries, and tomorrow I give a short talk on health in USSR. We got going but made no decision today. … I spent the rest of the afternoon with various people talking—have made a large number of acquaintances. zic zru zsn
At 4.30 the future housing talk by Mr. Carter of the RIBA—extremely good and interesting. After tea I bought some pamphlets for tomorrow’s lecture, then I talked to Ursula F. until the social—she zic zrc zsn zlu
