After tea I went for a walk with Margaret—she didn’t enjoy yesterday with John, I think she refused to because they spent so much—I told her she took herself too seriously. A lovely clear sunny day, made much happier for all by the announcement of John’s engagement to Melody. I thoroughly approve of my new sister-in-law elect (right word?). They are to be married in London next Saturday … with a short party in Melody’s flat, and a honeymoon at her house at Wittering. Daddy and Mommy are so happy too.
