We went for a short walk before dinner—warm and sunny. I spent the afternoon knitting, and reading. A nice peaceful sort of Christmas. zfl zcl zcf

I finished knitting a pair of childrens mittens for Russian refugees. zcf zch

 

Monday 29th

Mommy went off early to London, taking the two evacuees who are going home for a week. … zfl zev

The [village] boys arrived at 2.30, when we had shooting, and then went for a walk, in which we had a stalking game—in which they didn’t stalk, but only said ‘Got yer George’ etc. … zcb zct zwp

 

Tuesday 30th

…we went with the [car and] trailer to Sutton to collect scrap iron, taking one load from us, and collecting two loads from a dump collected by the boys in Bignor. zhk zmo

 

Wednesday 31st

… I went to Petworth to see Henry [Bassadone] off, we found a still warm rabbit—killed by a stoat, which we brought back. Only two girls turned up to knit, presumably they don’t like the afternoon. zrg zwl zcb zcf

Good news—Russians in Kerch and Feodosia. Far East is an inefficient muddle apparently. Thus ends 1941. What does next year hold for us? Invasion? Victory? zru zws zwg
