Friday 20th

…The AA fire which we heard was two bombs near Petworth station. … After supper we played Beggar’s Opera and Gilbert and Sullivan records on the gramophone. Heard a few bangs and planes etc. zar zmu

Monday 23rd

… In the morning Francis, Tinker and I went and fetched two christmas trees and some holly. It took us about two hours, most of which was spent in looking for holly berries, of which we found 9. Very cold. zcl zwr

Mommy went shopping in the afternoon, I played darts (I found 2 good 3s of darts) and read Gilbert and Sullivan operas. Mommy, Bassadone, and Daddy arrived at about 4 o’clock, and we had tea. Supper at 6.30. 6 Big Bangs over Bury direction. Bed 9.40. zsh zgn zhy zfl zmu zrg

Wednesday 25th

… Mommy and Daddy had given me a beautiful bicycle, I had hoped awfully that I would get one, but hadn’t dared expect it … Didn’t hear any planes in the evening. zcy zcl zfl

Thursday 26th

… No planes in evening

Friday 27th

… Several planes—London. In the afternoon we went for a walk on Farm Hill. Saw a Bren gun. zwk zwp zar
