Stefan [Gawel] came to tea— not too happy about the terms announced by the USSR today. These say the Curzon line is approximately the new [Polish] boundary—not Atlantic Charter principles, but then she was never asked. There may be better reasons than revenge for 1920 and traditional rivalry—and perhaps those Poles are now pro-Soviet—but it will cause bitterness, and will not help towards understanding of the Soviet Union. zfr zhy zru

As I lay in bed wondering if today would bring a letter, Daddy did, so I was very pleased. It was a long nice letter … I replied in the morning having thought of so much to say—it’s nice to have tangible evidence in the shape of a letter, as before all I had was her address, and memories of all the things I should have said but did not. … zfr zem
