Sunday 10th

Junior dorm a little rowdy before the bell went so I gave three people lines. … Frank sat with us at lunch. We discussed the war. zsd zwg

… my last night in Junior Dorm for a week. A few people will have to report at 7.10; 7.15; 7.20 and 7.25, undressing and dressing again between each time. zsd

Monday 11th

… Lovely—I spent my first night in the Pink dorm, and did not have to go to bed until after 8 o’clock. zsr

 

Tuesday 12th

We had double biology. B and I made a slide of the mouth parts of a cockroach,  it was very difficult dissecting them, but wizard fun. … zsa

 

Thursday 14th

… In Maths the headmaster could not do a rider and I showed him how and got 7d. I had a ‘booze’ at the school shop. … ztc zfd

Saturday 16th

… I went out to Salthouse with Mr. Oakley, E and G. We saw on the Salt Marshes a redshank, mallard, thousands of coots and a flock of Brent geese, at which Mr. Oakley fired, but they were too high and the bullets bounced off. We saw an extraordinary pair of ducks—crosses between mallard and farm ducks. On the way back we saw a large brown barn-owl flying round a gravel pit. It flew across the road and E saw it pounce on something, and then it flew away. zwl zwp zhu
