Music lesson; after chat with fellow flautists before Miss Stewart arrived—one quite nice—also plays violin and piano. Miss Stewart fairly normal despite hints of madness in letter—she did tell me to put the flute under a wardrobe when the sirens went (air raid, not flautist damsels she meant!). At 4 o’clock I was woken, and having donned parts of JTC uniform, left with wireless set no. 38 by way of window. Was with H above Bay Garden, the group was OK but only satisfactory communication was with control. … We went on for some time, and then rendyvoused at top of Ispell Charlie Able Dog Sugar William Able Lone King. zmb zsg
Back at about 5.30, to see at 10 yds. range a figure wearing grey flannels and windjacket à la Max waiting on the roof—Wallop marched on as if to his doom, we scattered. I crept in about 10 mins. later, and slept dreaming of the wrath to come … went up to Wallop at 8.30 to find that it had been Wood all the time, so all was well . … zmb zfr
