Thursday 19th

A lovely spring day. I was working in a garden at the far end of the town—not too arduous and quite good fun; Miss Milner [matron] had put me off games for my cough, which went two days ago. zwr zsu zil

A good mowage of the Jap fleet by Yankees— tonic after our great defeat in Java invasion. znb zwg

 

Friday 20th

Lovely day. I was collecting seaweed from the Gannel bank, we only took two sackfuls each, spending much time sunbathing—(me without shirt—lovely). Lots of violets. The first narcissus in the Lyle’s golden syrup tin on our windowsill came out—the other ought to tomorrow. … zsu zwr zwl

 

Saturday 21st

… I volunteered to go and build the Pentire pigsty after tea, but did not have to go. I finished Cronins—’The stars look down’—a very clever zsu zbn
