My fifteenth birthday. I didn’t expect anything, but I got a packet of pounds of food—cake, biscuits, sweets and cheese (S. Africa) and also £1—which was very naughty of Mommy. In the evening I got a wire from Margaret—’nearly forgot, parcel follows’. … zfd zcl zfl

There was a film show by Rev. Finnis in the evening—3 films; (1) quite good propaganda film about Seamen’s rest homes, (2) good torpedoing and then U-boat sinking, (3) Popeye. zfm zpg

Thursday 5th

Boring MT. I will give it up. zcf

House game in the afternoon. I’ve been chucked out of the Junior House team—so I’m not so keen and enjoy it less. … zsp

Friday 6th

Aircraft recognition in JTC by G—quite interesting. … zct zpp

Lecture on India by Mr. Shoran Singha in the evening—v. good. Quite hopeful, and Red when referring to vested interests and the Princes. As a reason for lack of assistance of native population in the Far East he gave this example: outside a British club in Singapore was the notice ‘No dogs or Chinese here’. Ugh!!! British officers in the Indian Army are still instructed in ways of keeping up prestige. … zlu zra zpn

 

Saturday 7th

… House film in the evening—’Downhill’—all about sinking of public school boy after he had been expelled for immoralities of his friend—the 5th reel of the film was accidentally left out, which wasn’t an improvement on an anyhow rather poor film. zfm
