In chem at the end RJC was looking down a piece of glass tubing when Smith accidentally knocked the other end … RJC had his eye bashed hard, and as it turned out he cut the cornea, luckily not quite through. … After lunch he taxied to Dr. Richard, and then to Truro where he saw a specialist—three readless days. Wednesday 28th

… News:  3 day parliamentary debate opened by W. Churchill. Much criticism of govt.—deserved. … zpl

In the afternoon we had to make paper flowers to decorate the window of the shop to be used for selling the toys which the school are (?) going to make. … zcf zch

… Making toys in the afternoon. Smith went into town and bought me a 2½d loaf—I always get ravenous at odd times of day. … zcf zfd

Sunday 1st

… We went down to the Gannel (RJC against rules because of his eye) and had quite a successful morning, seeing a peregrine, pochard, tufted duck, grey wagtail, ringed plover, sanderling etc. zwl

I spent the afternoon drawing birds from a book ‘How to draw birds’—I got two quite successful tufted duck. Then I changed for chapel, and at the last moment decided not to go, so I got under the bed, blocked up entrances and read. I’m there now. RJC is in the room, being off chapel for his eye. zwl zat zmb zrl
