A decisive epoch has come in man’s history as a result of the control over nature by science. The burden of labour can be lifted from mankind. The problem is the establishment of a society where science can be utilised to benefit all the people—but we must not forget present danger in our contemplation of the future. (1) Application of scientific method to every phase of human life. Science must be applied to the ordering of science. The scientific method is the objective study of the thing itself. The emphasis has been too much on the technical, not social side. Science’s benefits are not more fully enjoyed only because of conservatism. zic zlu zsi zrc
Will international govt. come? By generalising from the past and deducing laws and drawing conclusions, which enable us to understand the direction of human society, we can see a definite tendency towards internationalism—parts of world more interdependent. ‘Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee’. zic zlu zsi zrc
(2) Relationship of scientist to society. If we are going to apply science to every aspect of our affairs, we must increase time spent on it in schools and universities, especially on learning the scientific method. When industries develop as a result of scientific discovery, more scientists are drawn into industry. zic zlu zsi zrc
Today research is no longer individual, the apparatus cannot be made without industry; people of science, as was the case with industry, are becoming collectivised. Only if the state acts as the patron of scientists can science advance—but scientists must learn to work in teams. Science must be subject to social control. zic zlu zsi zrc
