I hope Mommy and Daddy are having a nice weekend. zfl

Wow! Enter Max inquisitive. Asks after RJC’s eye, kicks part of my barricade—the tuck box, and half stoops to look (from RJC). Exit Max, thank heaven. Wowch! another alert. Enter G, for 30 mins., during which Max comes twice, once to give G a magazine, once to fetch RJC to do some sweeping. Now G’s left, and I’m alone. Better than chapel this. After that all went well—but for some awkward questions at tea time from Max. zmb ztc zsd

Wednesday 4th

… I had to go and sell Vs [vouchers] in the town, the proceeds to be given to the Newquay hospital endowment fund to be invested during warship week. I did not enjoy squeezing money from the people who haven’t got much anyhow. One old man said he thought it was a silly idea—I told him I agreed. He gave 2d for the hospital. Another old lady told us how sad she was she could give nothing, so we gave her the shop’s address. She was a kind old soul, that filthy wart L roared with laughter while we were talking. zch zsu zpn zop

[See note]
