Saturday 20th

… I read ‘Christian — Communism’ in English—very concentrated and deep, which defies first reading—but all the more satisfying when read. zbp zrl zpn

… After tea I went out by myself on bike to the Gannel—a lovely hazy blue evening with a yellow sunset on the water, the tide being right in. Solitude is enjoyable too for itself. Otherwise I listened to the gramophone … zcy zds zem zmu

Quite good games after supper. Have finished Edgar Snow book on Red China—I’d like recent news. zgn zbp

 

Sunday 21st

Roger and I went far up Penpoll, finding nice fields and thickets, hearing the chiff chaff, and seeing a common snipe, brown owl and the pair of buzzards. A good morning. Back late for JTC (not sorry to miss it) with king cups and catkins to supplement the blackthorn decoration in our room. zwk zwl zct

… at nine o’clock the Prime Minister speaking. At 9.20, just as he got interesting, we were sent to bed, to my intense annoyance; and with the result of profanity and bitter reflections on the democratic nature of this x school, country and world. zpl zpn zem
